Mr Edward Powell-Smith

Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire specialising in hand and wrist surgery. I offer appointments and surgery in Harrogate and Leeds.

Profile

I was appointed as a consultant Hand and Wrist surgeon at Harrogate District Hospital in 2013. Since taking up my post I have continued to develop my understanding of the complex relationship between anatomy and function that makes treating hand and wrist problems so unique.

As a specialist surgeon I treat all conditions of the hand and wrist.

Specialist Training

I have extensive registrar training in Hand surgery as well as fellowship training in both Orthopaedic and Plastic surgery.

I undertook fellowships (advanced training) in prestigious departments:

  • Chelsea and Westminster Hand Surgery Unit
  • British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) fellow at the St Andrews centre for plastic surgery, Broomfield Hospital.

Plastic surgery training

Working with plastic surgeons I gained a detailed understanding of the innate relationship between soft tissue healing, scar formation and improved functional outcome. By utilizing these skills during routine operations I have seen less post operative soft tissue swelling resulting in less stiffness and improved patient outcomes
